THE CHAMPS ARE HERE: It was a night of pride and celebration in Aurora as we recognized our Special Olympics champions during a special presentation at the City Council meeting.
The Weston Bridges Warriors were honored for their outstanding performance at the Special Olympics Illinois Basketball Tournament. The Warriors sent two teams to the state competition and returned home with two impressive victories.
The Weston Bridges Black Team clinched the State Championship title in the Senior Division 11, while the Green Team earned second place in Division 2.
In front of a packed council chamber, each athlete was presented with a commemorative medal and certificate. Both teams were also awarded large trophies to bring back to Weston Bridges, their residential community.
Located on Aurora’s East Side, Weston Bridges is a pioneering residential community for high-functioning adults with intellectual, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. Designed to promote independent living, Weston Bridges is part of the revitalized Bloomhaven Campus, formerly the site of Copley Hospital, which sat vacant for over two decades.
Congratulations, Warriors! You make us all #AuroraProud!
Thanks CBS Chicago!
